The Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association (SIMA) established in 1992 is an all India apex body of Indian sponge iron industry. It is the voice of the indian iron ore based sponge iron & steel industry, at both domestic and global forums. As a not-for-profit society, SIMA has been mandated to communicate the viewpoints of its constituents & al stakeholders and represent their interest.
Sponge Iron also called Direct reduced iron (DRI), is produced from the direct reduction of iron ore (in the form of lumps, pellets, or fines) to iron by a reducing gas or elemental carbon produced from natural gas or coal. Many ores are suitable for direct reduction. Direct reduction processes can be divided roughly into two categories: gas-based, and coal-based. In both cases, the objective of the process is to drive off the oxygen contained in various forms of iron ore (sized ore, concentrates, pellets, mill scale, furnace dust, etc.), in order to convert the ore to metallic iron, without melting it (below 1200 °C).
Sponge iron produced using the non coking coal is called coal based sponge iron / DRI. For producing the sponge iron through this process requires high grade of iron ore and non coking coal.
In this process route, iron oxides are converted to the DRI / HBI by using natural gas in a vertical shaft furnace. For steel producers, it is a preferred metallic, energy efficient and much more eco-friendly route. The product on this route is DRI lumps and in the briquetted form.
Asian region continues to show high growth in steel production which creates challenges for sourcing of raw materials. This global event brought together the key metallic industry stakeholders like Iron ore, HBI, DRI, Pig Iron, Scrap etc. suppliers to discuss technological breakthroughs & demand outlook. The topics covered in this conference provided market insights & the entire supply chain and offered great networking opportunity.
Thank you for your kind email. It was my pleasure to meet you. Congratulations for organizing an excellent event.
Hope to meet you in some other conferences worldwide at near future.
It was our pleasure to be part of this event, both in the planning and execution phases.
Congratulations to you and the team!
Great conference. Congrats
Hope to see you when I next visit India.
I wish to thank you and SIMA for inviting Midrex and providing an opportunity for us to speak during your recent conference in Dubai. It was extremely well done and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was especially impressed that the delegates continued to participate in the conference throughout the day. Most conferences I've attended are only sparsely represented during the latter hours of the day.
It was pleasure seeing you and thanks for your invite. Your event was a great success…
It was a pleasure to be associated with this event, which as an aside was my first iron sector conference so I learned and personally benefitted a lot during the event.
I look forward to future interactions with you and SIMA.
Congratulations for a well-organized conference.
It was very well organised and gave great platform for interaction.Papers presented were of standard and so were the panel discussions. Congratulations to you and your team for excellent arrangement.
I must admit that the entire event was a roaring success with every participant having gone back with excellent memories. The event was planned and executed meticulously. This was made possible due to your tireless efforts along with valuable inputs from Mr D. P. Deshpande Chairman SIMA and Mr Tatia former Chairman SIMA.
SIMA has got international recognition and has been growing from strength to strength in the last few years and am sure with your continued efforts will become a premier business body in our country and establish itself in the international scenario as well.
Once again profuse thanks to you and the Chairman SIMA for organising an excellent international conference.
We appreciate the courtesies extended to us during the event. I would like to congratulate SIMA for a very well conducted event. Best wishes for the future and may our organisation grow stronger.
